The long awaited launch of the Windows 8 (8.1) successor is finally approaching, available from July 29th. the more observant of Windows 7 and 8.1 users may have noticed a new icon that has appeared close to the time and date in the bottom right-hand corner of their screen. Clicking on this icon allows you to pre-register to download Windows 10 for free. If you run Windows 8 and want this then you need to upgrade to Windows 8.1 first via Windows Update. Microsoft are making this upgrade free for a year. It will download after 29th July and you will be notified that it is ready to install. Back up any important data before attempting the upgrade in case something goes horribly wrong. It is probably worth checking the software and hardware on your system are compatible before going ahead, by downloading and running the Compatibility Advisor from Microsoft. Enjoy.
