Just removed some more nasty ransomware. This one didn’t lock the computer but opened a webpage telling the customer their files were all encrypted and to follow the instructions to decrypt them. Obviosusly this involved handing over money in return for an encryption key. All the files including documents, spreadsheets and pictures had been changed to a file extension .zepto. It is not advisable to hand over money in this situation, however desperate you are to recover your data, as there is no guarantee you will receive anything once you have handed over your money. The virus itself is fairly easy to remove but at this moment in time there is no way to decrypt the encrypted files. Make sure you are backing up important files to prevent data loss in future. External hard drives left plugged into your computer can also be accessed by these viruses. Why not talk to us about our secure online backup?
